Service Design Concept

Acho is an extensive concept of a non-profit project designed by ambitious designers in collaboration with Asylum Organization Zurich (AOZ) and a group of residents of the Messehalle 9, which was used as a temporary accommodation for asylum seekers in Zürich to improve the mobility of refugees in Switzerland.

In search of Refuge

Every single day, thousands of people are fleeing from their homes, seeking refuge and a safer life somewhere else. Assuming they make it all the way to Switzerland after a difficult and often traumatizing journey and are granted asylum under our laws, integration is very hard.

Mobility means Freedom

Movement enables physical as well as mental flexibility. It is not just a right, but a basis for a dignified and healthy life. Mobility enables us to make social contacts. and cultivate to interact with the environment and remain mentally agile. The prohibitive prices of using public transport, however, do not allow asylum seekers to move around freely, explore their new surroundings, and thus, integrate themselves into our society with the necessary support.

Acho

Acho is an open source – i.e. accessible to any non-governmental organization, association, or community that works for the well-being of refugees – roadmap, that helps set up an independent bike rental for asylum seekers and displaced persons.

Of course, it is important to first ensure that everyone has the skills to drive and behave safely on the road before renting a bicycle.
